What TV is Becoming These Days

Future of Television with DishTV

Sometimes people call me and start talking about how TV is dying. I hear that a lot. And I tell them the same thing every time. TV is not dying. It is just changing. The way we watch today is different from how we watched ten years ago. But we still watch. In fact we watch more than ever. It is just that the thing we watch on and the way we get it has shifted around a bit.

A good example. Someone buys a new TV. Big screen. 4K. When they get it home they realise their old set top box does not look good on it. The picture is not sharp. So they get a new box too. That is the thing nobody talks about. When the TV gets better the box matters more. You cannot put an old box on a new TV and expect everything to look great. It does not work that way.

Another thing I see all the time is people getting used to watching on their own time. Nobody waits for a specific time anymore. People used to rush home before 8 because their show started. Now they do not do that in years. They just watch it when they sit down. Sometimes they watch the next days episode the same night. It is all mixed up and they love it.

The boxes themselves have changed a lot inside. The newer ones are quick. You press a button and the channel changes right away. The older ones had a lag. You pressed the button and waited a second. That second feels like a long time once you get used to the new one. So a lot of people who upgrade ask us why they did not do it sooner.

Wifi on the box is a big deal for some people. You can connect the box to your home internet and suddenly you have apps on the TV. YouTube and all. But honestly not everyone uses it. A lot of people just want the regular channels to work. They do not care about apps. So the wifi is there if you want it but you do not have to use it.

One thing I want to be clear about. Live TV is not going anywhere. Every time there is a big cricket match or election results our site gets busy. People still want to watch things the moment they happen. That need is not going away just because streaming exists. Both can sit in the same house. They are not fighting each other.

If you have an old setup and you are thinking about changing it just come talk to us. We see this stuff every day. We can tell you what makes sense for your room and your budget. No need to guess.

Frequently asked questions

Do people still watch live TV

Yes. Especially for cricket, news, and reality show finals. Live is not dead.

Is a new box worth it if my old one works

If you got a new TV then yes. Old boxes do not look good on new screens. Otherwise stick with what you have.

Can I get apps on my DishTV box

Newer boxes with wifi support let you use streaming apps. Check your box model.

Should I care about 4K

Only if you have a big screen and a plan that supports HD channels. On a small TV it does not matter.

Will I need internet to watch normal channels

No. Normal DishTV channels work without internet. Internet is just for the extra features.
